Joanne Bowers is June’s Hero of the Month at Cherry Tree House
Joanne Bowers has been named Hero of the Month for June, by home manager Val Shaughnessy. Joanne, who is a healthcare assistant on the night shift was nominated by nights manager Kay Hay and also by resident’s family members for her caring and compassionate nature.
She has had a career in the care sector for over 20 years working in hospitals, agencies and care homes and has been at Cherry Tree House for just one year. ‘This is the first time in twenty years that I have been recognised for the work I do, and it has really touched me,’ said Joanne. ‘ I was shocked to even be nominated, as I just think I am doing my job. I just come in and get on with it.’

One of Joanne’s friends suggested she apply for a job at Cherry Tree. ‘I was at my last place for 10 years and I wanted a new challenge’ she said. ‘Cherry Tree House looked like a fabulous place to work so I applied and was offered the job. I work with a brilliant team and that makes it so much easier for me to do a good job. Being part of a great team has got us through the last few months of lockdown. It’s been tough, but we’ve still had lots of laughs and jokes and we have kept spirits high even throughout all the restrictions on visiting. There’s been a lot of doom and gloom in the press, but I just wish people could see the good side of what has been happening for our residents here, yes it’s been hard work, but there has been many, many happy times.’
Joanne lives locally, has been married for nearly 30 years and has two children; a daughter aged 27 who is a manager and a son aged 25 who is a police officer.
‘It’s people like Joanne that make a real difference to the care our residents receive’ said Jeanne Davies, managing director of L&M Healthcare. ‘We have been through some challenging times over the last four months and I couldn’t be prouder of the efforts that our staff have put in. Joanne is a very deserving winner.’
As well as a certificate and a small gift, Joanne also receives £100 worth of vouchers of her choice.
