Macmillan Coffee Morning at Finney House
What a glorious day we had for our Macmillan coffee morning at Finney House. The event which takes place across the whole of the country is held to raise money for Macmillan Nurses who work so hard in supporting those with cancer and rely entirely on donations to keep their service running.
Resident’s families and friends were all invited to share in coffee and cake and to take part in our cake making competition. Some of our residents have been expert bakers in their time and could give Bake Off contestants a run for their money; Mary Jackson has always been a keen baker and with Edna Booth they made a fabulous chocolate cake. Jen and Amy were on hand throughout the day to help serve the coffee and cakes. Other contributors to the feast, which also included pastries, included Jen Stutter, Amy Malone (and mum), Jackie Bailey, Jag, Padma, Lisa Kimble and Beverly Shoesmith.
The competition was judged by our resident Philomena who had quite a tough, but very enjoyable job. She gave first prize and a basket of baking items to Amy’s mum for her delicious bran loaf, second prize was awarded to Celia’s excellent Millionaire Shortcake and third went to our lovely activities coordinator Jen’s cupcakes.
We all agreed that we have some very talented bakers in our midst.
