Activities at Hulton House

We have a weekly programme of varied and inclusive activities to entertain and stimulate our residents, such as:

  • Visits from professional musicians and entertainers
  • Guided walks round the gardens and walks to feed the ducks in the pond next door
  • Trips to watch Preston Grasshoppers
  • Dancing and singing
  • Parties and picnics
  • Board games such as scrabble and dominoes
  • Card games such as ‘Play your cards right’
  • Arts and crafts
  • Film nights
  • Tovertafel (interactive magic table)
  • Car driving experience
  • Residents are actively encouraged to take advantage of our pamper suite as part of their daily life. They can enjoy hairdressing, pedicures, manicures and massages and have a nice coffee while they are there.

All activities are led by Wellbeing Co-ordinators, but we believe that everything that we do with a resident should be an activity.

Sometimes that might be just doing odd jobs around the house; it makes life feel ‘normal’ and helps with reminiscing. When one of our residents said that he used to earn pocket money washing cars, we got the hosepipe out and washed a car or two.

We use activities to engage and connect and always tailor them to the individual. For example; one resident used to love photography, so we organised for a wildlife photography session in nearby woods with a professional photographer for him.  Another resident who was previously a chartered accountant was asked ‘What makes you the happiest?’. He said he wanted to be busy and back at work. He needed to feel busy again and that the favourite part of his job was doing tax returns. He was assisted to print old tax calculation forms off the internet, all staff brought in receipts so we could build a portfolio and profile for him to complete. He was very enthusiastic and wanted to complete this in three days.

  • Must be one of the nicest places I’ve ever seen!

  • Well. It’s just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Whoever’s built it has done a damn good job!

  • The care my father has received has been second to none. I cannot thank you enough for the work you do. You are a shining example of how a nursing home should be run.

  • This is an outstanding care home with friendly and approachable staff. On a first impression it reminds me of a five star hotel. My grandma settled in from day one!

  • The facilities, food, activities, cleanliness etc are all as you would expect from a first class care home. We are really impressed and we would have no hesitation in recommending you.

  • I’d be happy to put either of my parents in here.

  • There’s space for people to sit around and have their own time. Absolutely stunning.

  • Yes. I could live here quite happily. Yes. I’m 76 years old and my husband is 82. We don’t live very far away so it would be like a real home from home.

  • It’s very impressive, obviously finished to a very high standard, very roomy, yes am mightily impressed.

  • I’m just blown away to be honest with you. I’ve never seen a place like it in my life. It looks good from the outside even. When you come inside it’s like walking in heaven and that’s where I’ll be when I come here.
