Whittle Hall installs ‘magic’ Tovertafel award winning dementia care technology

Whittle Hall in Great Sankey, Warrington have just installed their first Tovertafel.

The Tovertafel, which means magic in Dutch, is an award-winning innovation from the Netherlands, which is renowned for its cutting-edge approach to dementia care. It has been designed to help those at a later stage on their dementia journey be more active and create moments of happiness. It consists of a series of interactive games that are projected on a table. The games encourage players to reach out towards them and the lights subsequently respond to their hand and arm movements, allowing the residents to play with light, in a way that feels truly magical.

The games are formulated to trigger a sense of reminiscence among players in order to encourage stimulation socially, cognitively and physically. They include gardening, fishing and popping balloons and are a fun, safe environment for all residents.

‘The Tovertafel has been so well received by our residents and their families, said Jeanne Davies, Director of L&M Healthcare, residents are getting a lot of benefit from using it. As a care provider we are constantly looking for new ways of engaging and communicating with our residents and the Tovertafel is one of those pathways that feels like a magical experience.’
