Activities in our homes

Activity planning in all L&M Healthcare homes centres around the individual needs that have been identified in resident’s care plans by our Assistant Psychologists. (AP’s)

Each home has a dedicated full-time AP, (something no other care home group offers) along with a Wellbeing team who together support our care teams in providing a holistic approach to activities.

Whole Home Approach to Activities

L&M Healthcare were also the first care home group in the UK to launch a whole home approach to activities. This initiative means that all team members are responsible for delivering meaningful activities with our residents.

Wellbeing teams – directed by our AP’s – plan and lead a weekly programme of events, but it is the responsibility of every team member to ensure that their residents are engaging in activities that are meaningful to them on a daily basis.

Monthly calendar of activities

Our monthly activities plans include four therapeutic areas run by qualified professional therapists and supported by our AP’s, Wellbeing, and Care Teams.  

Each therapy chosen for its ability to improve the quality of life for people living with Dementia Nursing, Complex Dementia (Dementia Plus) ABI and Mental Health

These four areas include Music, Art, Exercise, and Animal Assisted Therapies.

Theme days, clubs, and entertainers

In addition we also deliver a full and varied programme of activities and entertainment which include knit and natter clubs, coffee and catch up clubs, themed activity days, intergenerational visits, church services, and a variety of visiting musical professionals including: tribute artists, brass bands, singers, and musicians.

Our homes are decorated with special attention to detail and events are held for all key seasonal and family events such as Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s, Easter, Mother’s and Father’s Days, VE Day, D-day and Remembrance Sunday.

Veteran Friendly

We fully support and help raise awareness of our Armed Forces on Remembrance Sunday, VE day, and D-Day. Hulton House in Preston is Veteran Friendly Framework VFF accredited, and we are currently working with the VFF to roll this out across all homes in the group.

Interactive Activities

We ensure that we keep up to date with all the latest developments in interactive activities on the market and make significant investments into them. We proactively research and source innovative interactive activities and have a number of these in all homes across the group. We also attend professional forums such as The Design in Mental Health Conference and Exhibition.

We aim to provide best on the market, from inbuilt themed interactive areas to digital interactive activities such as Railway carriage virtual experiences, Tovers, (light based interactive projectors) Giant iPads, and Jolly Trolleys (mobile music centres). These are all ready-made activities that stimulate, engage, and enrich our residents’ lives.
